Incisions are usually started above the hair line at the temples, follow the line in front of the ear, curve behind the earlobe into the crease behind the ear, along the lower scalp. Then facial, neck tissue and muscle is separated, fat is trimmed and the muscle is tightened. After this, the excess skin is pulled, trimmed and sutured. After the surgery, a small, thin tube may be placed temporarily behind the ear, to drain the blood if it gets collected there. Then the head is wrapped loosely in bandages bring down the level of swelling and bruising.
If there is any pain, it can be treated with medication. The patient may experience a little numbness, which will come down in few days. The patient may be advised to keep his/ her head in an elevated position to bring down the swelling.
